Manager, Underwriting

Job Summary

• Responsible for the New Business & Customer Service underwriting and assist the Head of New Business Underwriting on other underwriting function.

Job Description

• Lead and manage a team of Underwriters for processing underwriting cases submitted through Agency channel.
• Process and countersign underwriting cases according to the individual authority limit assigned.
• Work with the Head of New Business Underwriting to implement strategies for Underwriting policies in line with Takaful principles and good governance.
• Assist in reviewing, implementing changes and developing underwriting guidelines.
• Assist to oversee and ensure the process flow is in order.
• Support and maintain AIS in accordance to the new regulatory implementation and new product development.
• Assist to develop, track and manage the performance of the service provider.
• Support and work with various departments, GELM counterpart and service provider in the area related to New Business Underwriting department.
• Ensure reports are accurate and ready within the stipulated time.
• Ensure there is no process gap, identify room for improvement and ultimately improve efficiency of the team.
• Ensure underwriting decision is given appropriately according to the risk.

Job Specification

• Degree or higher academic qualification. Other professional qualification is an added advantage.
• Minimum 5-7 years of experience in underwriting, preferably in Takaful/ Insurance/ other Financial Institution/ Service Provider.
• Strong leadership, mentoring and people management skills.
• Results driven.
• Good business acumen and sense of urgency.
• People oriented and customer focused.
• Ability to drive and motivate staff
• Good team player.
• Good market and industry knowledge.
• Strong technical knowledge in family takaful/ life insurance underwriting.
